May 4th-8th is Teacher Appreciation Week, and we have started the celebration early. #205 teachers were able to present a check to the Galesburg FISH Food Pantry. Governor Pritzker has just informed all Illinois school districts that schools will be closed Tuesday, March 17, 2020 and through Monday, March 30, 2020. The district is developing a remote learning plan and will be notifying parents shortly with details.

At around 9:15am, Nielson Elementary went into a soft lockdown due to activity in the area. Our first priority is always to secure the building and insure the safety and well-being of students. All noon recess activities were held indoors today. At this time, normal school procedures have resumed.
The Lombard Middle School Staff would like to invite all students and their families to their annual Trick or Treat night (Oct. 30) from 4-5pm at Lombard. Enter through the main doors off of Knox St. Costumes are encouraged and all children must be accompanied by an adult.

Today was a great day to be a Nielson Navigator! Students participated in their first whole school assembly and reviewed school expectations. Students also enjoyed a whole school recess at the end of their day, and there was a surprise visit from a few Toy Story characters who helped us learn about our BIST Life Goals and Nielson Core Values. BIST Life Goals: 1. I can make good choices even if I am angry. Responsibility 2. I can be okay even if others are not. Confidence 3. I can do something even if I don't want to or if it is hard to do. Perseverance For more information on the BIST program, visit www.bist.org.
